FOLIE Development 2

THE PROPOSAL
The proposal for the Folie design will be a SMALL READING SPACE / SMALL LIBRARY, as that place is important for people to learn, in this case I eager people to learn by READING. Of course with the stunning view and natural feeling from the site.

The analysis of the Trees density (as the natural feeling from the site comes from the Trees). The green block shows the area that has more trees density.

This is the analysis of the view to the river, CBD, and surroundings. Represented by the purple mark that seemly pointing. The right area has more views and the lift area has less views. The conclusion is, any area as long has good views can be the option.

FOLIE Development 1

OBJECTIVES:
1. To design a Folie that help people to LEARN
2. Fit for 2 people
3. Sized 5mx5mx5m

DEFINITION OF LEARNING
1. The acquisition of Knowledge or Skills through experience, practice, study or being taught - google.com
2. Knowledge acquired by some way - google.com

MY DEFINITION OF LEARNING

not sure whether Abstraction or Metaphorical - need help on this, dear tutors :)

LEARNING OF SHAPE(S)
Shapes could be the thing that makes people curious. Because shapes are eternity and have unlimited development and possibilities. Shapes are playable. Between basic shapes, you can create your own shapes. Yet, shapes are our friend since childhood. Introduced in pre-school. It has programmed in our mind.

FUTURE LEARNING SPACE
Future Learning Space is when the space itself is learn-able / giving knowledge or curiosity

CONTEXT
I found that the site location is very suitable with this folie, because it located between 4 suburbs and 1 CBD so anyone can visit. Also, the experience of perceiving and feeling the shapes is not limited by ages or background. Anyone, from youngsters, teenagers, businessman, student, can join and feel the innocence in feeling shapes with their senses.

Suitable located near the water since it can gives chill, comfort feeling and many options of amazing view.

FUNCTION
1. People just come to the Folie and do what they want
2. But mostly people will perceive the space and the shapes with their own senses, because they will amaze with the combination between shapes and how I play with their minds and imagination. They will walk, take photos, go upstairs, have great time with their relatives, and enjoying the surroundings.
3. This Folie will visible from many directions around HSW. Thus it has unique facade.

TECTONICS
1. Core materials: Steel / Concrete (firm)
2. Inside materials: Combination between Steel, Concrete and Wood (mix between hard & soft)
3. Anchored: Weld
4. Assembled: Each story put together

EXPERIENCE
1. People will see combination between shapes, materials and visual qualities.
2. I also put some attraction with light illusion combined with the shapes either on the facade, base and inside the space.
3. Not only inside the space, the shapes combination also can be seen from a distance (surrounding of HSW) and each angle will resulting different view as well.

SHAPE RULES/SHAPE GRAMMAR
In order to create space that perceived as shapes, I use the method Shape Rules & Shape Grammar which will produces combination, permutation and possibilities between basic shapes in order to create unique facade.

Experiments using Shape Rules/Grammar for the Base (Plan). The blacked part is the original shape.

Same experiment but for the Elevation (Facade). Combining between several shapes to produce other possibilities of shapes.

Later on, those combinations will be combined (between Base and Elevation) on 3D Model application, to see which one will suite best with the concept, context, function, tectonic, experience and other qualities. Modification will be done if needed. Yet, the final ideas could not be determined since it still needs further development in the concept and initial ideas.

Howard Smith Wharves walkshop log & Site Analysis

1. ORIENTATION & ACCESS
This is how I reach the site from QUT, using the walkshop route. I found that this route through several different zones. Start from George street which has lots of old buildings, Elizabeth street in the heart of the city, Charlotte to Eagle street, and along the riverside when you can see the HSW clearly. Gives particular feelings before entering the site.
Howard Smith Wharves is located between 4 Suburbs and 1 CBD. That's why this site is accessible from many direction. Yet, different people, lifestyles, and density are possibly to be the visitor of the site. The light blue represent the low density of people in suburbs and the darker blue represents higher density of CBD. Yellow line represents access through CityCat Ferry and Red is the site

2. CONTOUR & RECENT CONDITION
Yet, HSW's site has unique Geographical condition. The site has front view of River, beautiful Brisbane City & Kangaroo Point. On the other hand, the back part of the site are cliffs and rocks, which is hard material and uncomfortable. However, the site will visible as the cliffs are the base for suburbs (Fortitude Valley) - picture taken from ozatwar.com

3. WIND & SUN STUDY
The location is quite strategic. Morning sun will goes through the site as well as afternoon sun but not too much because blocks by the Story Bridge. The cliffs can gives shades and protection. The disadvantage is when noon, the sun will exactly on the top of the site.

Based on direct observation, the site has lots of winds coming through since it has river in the front. Wind can be one of the quality of space since gives chill and comfort feeling

The Site from distance - showing that the site has clear visibility from any direction

The site has many stunning view, including Story Bridge view, suburbs view, CBD and the river itself. Unfortunately, the Site is closed to public so I can't take photographs while exactly stands on the Site. However, I'll post some external pictures to express the ideas.
